It's an old Farmhouse and has a lovely </div><div style="text-align: center;">beamed ceiling throughout and oaks floors. Right now they're rather </div><div style="text-align: center;">shabby but with some restoration, polish and lots of elbow grease </div><div style="text-align: center;">they will look splendid and dare I say it... chic!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4Fqq4uSDVUPZySSaIe02BVXRR_gJgIahmIHYlZWV-ZoKciFtvloDBSzxnn1_jo8PHX78MgdHxN-bd_B06qykzUw0kSVVddf5hq6tbL3JvB90UaknQ-eGeMmZsz_kGZu9q4vOD4YcKWXw/s320/Ladderback+chairs.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">I have a large light sandy coloured sisal rug that will protect the </div><div style="text-align: center;">flooring and act as an anchor for the dining table and chairs. The </div><div style="text-align: center;">dining table, preferably old and in oak, will have that slightly </div><div style="text-align: center;">make-do and mend air to it with a set of ladderback chairs sharing </div><div style="text-align: center;">a similar rustic patina. With a love of old linens, the table would be </div><div style="text-align: center;">draped in white and ivory table runners in beautiful antique </div><div style="text-align: center;">French damask. To soften the chairs, I would place small </div><div style="text-align: center;">lumber pillows in linen.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhojj_mXIS2pjpIDBD8Z-BdmYJ6EBYKKrXIKhUtd0-dsNVzsj8D9DGlAe2GKFtJZiuoj4yUDLxfkY_6bpP6wryADjfnD8Lnon5bl6tXsKdxYsqT2F-KT6wAtf92k-AjAZt717JC2yWCMXQ/s320/Stunning+Chandelier.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Lighting is important throughout a house and in the dining room it </div><div style="text-align: center;">can be the 'piece de la resistance'. I came across this old farmhouse and several outbuildings and, after much thought and consideration, realised this could be my golden opportunity. It's situated in a small hamlet about 10 minutes drive from Rochechouart in the Limousin, Central France (about an hour from Limoges). For me, it is essential the region enjoys all four seasons and it has to be either rural or semi-rural as I aim to restore this property environmentally and as ecologically friendly as is practicable. In a village, the neighbours would not welcome the solar panels and wind turbine and I've been told that planning permission would be very difficult too in this type of locale.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I've spent the past week trying to decide how each of the buildings will be used; essential when having to replace the septic and plumbing systems. Finally, I am happy with the proposals and layout for each building. Of course, this could change overnight but for now, it's the way to go. Finally, I can focus my attention on the house/s...</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAAJ2pZliPbVaC5L54vUB8EbfoP733m49EMOOiOD0B9xfKLvIoGlkJb07LqNTVZzSdYjZDO2_76kzWSg7u-oVSQ_JGHUsryxsW9Z0vh1qD8dPlXyXyV03Q72nc1p0GqaeBaXbGm7CIP3Y/s320/Floorplan+for++Farmhouses+%2526+barn.jpg" /></div></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The two houses will become one 4 bed home and the attached barn a workshop, office, art gallery and design studio. I want to salvage as much of the existing materials as I can and try to go for minimal structural change but there's clearly going to be some.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Starting with building A, I am hoping to be able to widen the stairs and install a cloakroom underneath. Next would be to knock through to building B just in front of the stairs (building A). I want to remove the stairs and replace the front door with windows in building B. At the back of the houses, I am planning an addition so that I can have a large eat in kitchen and a library. I want to open up the back of the house into the addition and install French windows on the back of the addition leading straight out onto the proposed patio and gardens. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcdbJOet-HjqM_wy1GFS_VSr0Zx6fUdw2jjINTA2XDPYjPiGdaZ5Rp4yOy0aBOonPkoJO_n4qRvMCqgYWpYYs4ZqCkX7ITPbMzX_pthyphenhyphenlfPNuyowi8E1oDzP6637z0j8-MmhvX0HtjBtI/s320/Limousin+France+2.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">As you can see there is much to do. The good news is that the structures are solid and the roofs are in great condition. Every Spring and Fall sees the return of the Round Top Antique Fair. Imagine approximately 11 miles of gently rolling Texas country littered with barns, pretty painted houses, tents and fields full to bursting with antiques and collectibles!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I have to write myself a shopping list as I find it overwhelming and am easily sidetracked. This particular show, I was on the hunt for old but beautiful mother of pearl buttons, linen and as much vintage ribbon as my budget would allow. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">With show magazine in hand, I headed off to find two of my favourite dealers at Marburger Farm. Here you will find 350+ dealers on 43 acres offering some of the very best European antiques to include furniture, silver, porcelain, linens and much much more.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqzUbh8ARVPtr-9IHdJ9hWyDE6yzAOWszSnyTKyO687e8HS3a_uB0xRgtmfwEK_gFFjVVnyER1f7qOOlRXx54uBk9w2HE0ICTYB3aXyEU5GXjH3xWRg-ouBV274D0uwyOBk6xrLxZZo0E/s400/164.JPG" /><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi41ZU8Ip0Hi2-2EUgMc9KUIITGMjKDEF-Gp6jTNtAumISPO2Js51-tqef3fgYCDw-ABW79J309QZD2Wn4p0WoHihNRmQxZlHih3Qbxgp09i8cIPmFjjjkVfjcBieWZHqAFAbthYz7XZcE/s400/166.JPG" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">First stop, Judith & Darrel. Their booth is always a treat for the eyes, a series of little vignettes showcasing an array of European antiques and collectibles. Every nook and cranny offers up a treasure from a bygone era that simply begs to be taken home. There is something for everyone and their prices cannot be beaten...</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi40hO5JAi-RkbvKFuJCTf5Kc4AlYp0RS7zTf3ygS4ebPuP9_YAM6fPG0srwmNQ5453cQitIuR3w9sSY_h3tdjZ_dd1HsHo4Vp2Td_pOLAfjsdSePCNMuEI_esqeNuEDTKC1y4U6ShS4sg/s400/165.JPG" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Next stop is to see Linda at Willow Nest Farm where I stock up on the hand tinted silk and vintage ribbons. The colours are always perfect for my design projects. Her booth is always fresh, pretty, loaded with pieces both beautiful and interesting; you will not be able to resist a peek - simply lovely!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZFG0O4_hnLZvpv8BUAPuR6e4tQ7zWlXJM8K3brbnKpFD0QPgFi4ScX83DPUpYRHfsJXM0ArN1E7ukWFjgAuSo4gUrINs04-UUhNl6NPCmLMlGuhmZfHTlQYJ3M9mE2oVnPs-eaDtaQwU/s1600/170.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZFG0O4_hnLZvpv8BUAPuR6e4tQ7zWlXJM8K3brbnKpFD0QPgFi4ScX83DPUpYRHfsJXM0ArN1E7ukWFjgAuSo4gUrINs04-UUhNl6NPCmLMlGuhmZfHTlQYJ3M9mE2oVnPs-eaDtaQwU/s320/170.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5590718711624693618" style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 180px; " /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgglZeYq_vA8rrQgX0YbNzkXlIaI8exfqB7rzOW82TsIH5UYWWUoMlugopaaS4_tAVEfSGpu6SGazsqHlFu4w6CPT_ocs_gCnkpx-eS6689qiZjUYU-Cn8HXkvN74JacujRPlfPSKvzgeY/s1600/169.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgglZeYq_vA8rrQgX0YbNzkXlIaI8exfqB7rzOW82TsIH5UYWWUoMlugopaaS4_tAVEfSGpu6SGazsqHlFu4w6CPT_ocs_gCnkpx-eS6689qiZjUYU-Cn8HXkvN74JacujRPlfPSKvzgeY/s320/169.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5590718708865104306" style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 180px; " /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEtcy5DKfuqNbdwmqK8r_ycDbFxZZ4quaCzNZrjX-J_ufUUvHS9zuGV9jefWrkSBa1m79iSh9TI5PTy9sL71pguuK91CU5_KoWE1hKTmbiksNS71hm-eTMvyzfou5BIv22-WgHFQhJpu8/s320/168.JPG" /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Before heading off to the next venue, I came across Jennifer Zanetti. I was instantly captured by her hand tinted vintage velvet ribbons. I couldn't resist buying a little in lavender... sooo pretty... She also offers a collection of pillows created in beautiful antique Fortuny textiles in an array of colours.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">After a quick look through the tents, my final stop is Coles. Bryan and Roberta of Bull in a China Shoppe offer some very fine china, glass and porcelain as well as silver and jewellery. They do not disappoint... Then on to see Ann & Friedrich at Antik Bazar who sell stunning European linens and trims. If you're looking for fine linens and trims at a reasonable price, these are the people to see.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I had a very successful shopping trip and spent every penny of my budget but there is still another day left to go in search of a treasure should you feel so inclined...</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div>Happy treasure hunting</div><div><br /></div><div>Jo xx</div><div>Eliza Interiors & Design</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><a href="http://www.eliza-interiors-and-design.com/">www.eliza-interiors-and-design.com</a></div><div>jo@eliza-interiors-and-design.com</div><div><br /></div><div>Judith McClellan & Darrel Davenport</div><div>Antiques & Linens, 1003 West 34th Street, Houston, TX 77018<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span></div><div><a href="http://www.antiquesandlinens.com/">www.antiquesandlinens.com</a><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span></div><div><br /></div><div>Linda Marcov</div><div>Willow Nest Farm, P O Box 493, Burton, TX 77835</div><div>lindamarcov@yahoo.com</div><div><br /></div><div>Jennifer Zanetti</div><div>Antique European Textiles, Ribbons & Trims</div><div>j.zanetti@comcast.net</div><div><br /></div><div>Bryan & Roberta Bullinger</div><div>Bull in a China Shoppe</div><div>bullette1@aol.com</div><div><br /></div><div>Anne & Friedrich Gebhard</div><div>Antik Bazar, P O Box 152 Plum, TX 78952</div><div>(979) 966 8172</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Jo Farmerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17417876331826102597noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-639417746950730791.post-54802476696626993532011-03-16T16:28:00.000-07:002011-03-16T19:07:10.892-07:00A Passion for French Linens<div><div style="text-align: center; With my 'To Do' list on the increase, I am forever having to close my computer page and check my digital diary for the next item on the list. This is not only laborious but takes time away from my design projects. My criteria was simple; aesthetically pleasing, easy to use, wireless and eco friendly. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Whether you are technically challenged or overloaded, you may need 'The Pear'. If I had the luxury of space at home, I would design a room specifically for my <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;">books, no computers or cell phones just books.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;">I have a perfect visual of how the room would look: The crown moulding and ceiling rose would be a crisp white, the walls painted in a palette of ivories and ethereal creams to mimic the change in light as the day passes. Soft creamy wool check drapes would frame the beautiful French windows. The floor would be created using reclaimed light oak timbers and reclining atop would be a hand made soft wool rug that would caress the toes. This room would be located at the back of the house and overlook the pretty garden for peace and tranquility. </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" ;font-family:georgia;">The bookcases would line all available walls and be hand-crafted from English oak with simple traditional styled glass paneled doors. A large ottoman would command a central position with a crystal chandelier above. An antique sofa would take its place on one side of the ottoman and on the other side a pair of wing chairs separated by a pretty putty coloured painted table showcasing a pair of reading lamps and fresh flowers from the garden. A perfectly light and airy room. But wait a moment, there's something missing...</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;">Clearly, the chairs need pillows so I set off to my linen closet in search of inspiration. I wanted to create a matching pair and happily came across some soft chocolate brown and ivory check wool, ivory linen, chocolate brown silk ribbon, simple toile pieces and beautiful mother of pearl buttons for that final hint of luxury. I knew exactly what I wanted to create the moment I picked up the toile pieces and, as luck would have it, everything else fell into place.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;"><br /></span></div><img style="display:block;
